Why do you need a Permit?
The BSF (Border Security Force) controls the area. The permit system tracks who enters and exits the desert. Without this pass, you will be stopped at the Bhirandiyara Check Post, which is about 55 km from Bhuj.
Permit Fees (Approximate)
The government charges a nominal fee for entry. These rates change occasionally, but here is the standard pricing:
- Adult (12+ years): ₹100 per person
- Child (6-12 years): ₹50 per child
- Child (Below 6): Free
- Two-Wheeler: ₹25
- Four-Wheeler (Car): ₹50
Note: This permit is usually valid for one day. If you are staying overnight, check the validity dates carefully.
How to get the Permit?
You have two ways to get this document:
Method 1: Online (Recommended)
- Visit the official Rann Permit website (rannpermit.com).
- Select your date of visit and number of people.
- Upload a copy of your ID Proof (Aadhar, Driving License, etc.).
- Pay the fee online.
- Download the PDF on your phone.
Method 2: Offline (At Bhirandiyara Check Post)
On your way from Bhuj to Dhordo, you will see a check post at Bhirandiyara village. You can park your car, stand in line, fill out a form, pay cash, and get the permit.
Warning: During peak season (December-January), this queue can take 1 to 2 hours. It is dusty and crowded.
Expert Suggestions: Skip the Queue
We have seen hundreds of tourists ruin their mood standing in lines at the permit office instead of enjoying the sunset. Here is the smarter way:
The "Server" Issue
The government website often goes down or runs very slow during peak dates due to heavy traffic. OTPs get delayed, and payments fail.
The "ID" Confusion
Sometimes, specific ID formats are rejected. If you make a mistake in the name spelling, the BSF guard might deny entry.
