1. The Royal Complex: Aina Mahal & Prag Mahal

Located right next to each other in the old walled city, these two palaces offer a glimpse into the opulent life of the Maharaos of Kutch.

Aina Mahal (Hall of Mirrors):

Built in the 18th century by the master craftsman Ramsinh Malam, who trained in Europe. Inside, look for the famous 45-foot long scroll depicting a royal procession and the room with fountains inside the bedroom! The fusion of Kutchi and European art here is unique.

Prag Mahal (The Bell Tower):

Just next door stands this Gothic-style palace made of Italian marble and sandstone. Climb the 45-meter high Bell Tower for the best panoramic view of Bhuj city. You might recognize the Durbar Hall from the movie Lagaan.

Timing Alert: Both palaces usually close for a lunch break between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Visit them in the morning (9 AM - 12 PM) or late afternoon.

2. Smritivan Earthquake Memorial (New)

This is Bhuj's newest and most emotional attraction. Built on the Bhujiyo Hill, it is dedicated to the victims of the 2001 earthquake.

  • The Museum: It is world-class. There are 7 galleries representing elements like Earth, Fire, and Water.
  • The Simulator: There is a special 5D theater that simulates the tremors of the 2001 earthquake. It is a terrifying but educational experience.
  • The Sun Point: Walk up to the sunset point within the memorial complex for a stunning view of the city skyline.

3. Shree Swaminarayan Temple

The original temple was destroyed in the earthquake, but the new one built in 2010 is a masterpiece. Made entirely of white marble with intricate carvings, it glows golden under the night lights. It is a place of immense peace.
