How to Save Big in Kutch
There are two main ways to do Rann Utsav on a budget. Choose the one that fits your style:
Strategy 1: The "Bhuj Base Camp" (Cheapest)
The Plan: Stay in Bhuj city where hotels are cheap (₹1500-₹2500). Take a day trip to the White Desert (85km).
- Stay: Hotel Tulsi Residency or Click Hotel. Clean, AC rooms at great rates.
- Food: Eat at budget favorites like Annapurna (famous for Gujju thali ~₹150) or Sankalp.
- Transport: Rent a bike in Bhuj (~₹500/day) or take a shared taxi/bus to Dhordo.
- Savings: You save approx ₹5,000 per night compared to staying in Dhordo.
Strategy 2: The "Village Homestay" (Best Value)
The Plan: Stay in Gorewali or Hodka village (just 5-10km from the desert). Experience local life in a Bhunga.
- Stay: Rann Visamo, Moon Homestay, or Rann Kandhi. Prices range ₹3000-₹4500 including meals.
- Food: These stays usually include authentic home-cooked Breakfast and Dinner in the price. Big saving!
- Experience: You are close enough to visit the desert for both sunrise and sunset without long travel.
Expert Money-Saving Hacks
Locals know where the best deals are. Here are 3 tips to lower your trip cost:
1. Eat at "Iscon Gathiya"
Don't spend ₹500 on lunch. On the Bhachau-Bhuj highway, stop at Iscon Gathiya. Fresh Gathiya, Jalebi, and Tea for under ₹100/person. It's hygienic and delicious.
2. Shared Cabs exist!
Solo traveler? Go to the Bhuj Bus Station or Railway Station early morning. You often find shared jeeps (Chakdas/Toofan) going towards Khavda/Dhordo for ₹150-200 per seat.
Travel Off-Peak
If you can, visit in November or March. Room rates drop by almost 40% compared to December.
