To the naked eye, the moon looks 99% full one day before and one day after the peak date. The visual experience on the white salt is practically the same.

On the exact Full Moon night, resort prices hit their peak, and crowds are maximum. If you book for the day before or after, you often get better room availability and slightly lower rates.

The white salt of the desert acts like a giant mirror. When the full moon shines on it, the entire landscape glows with a surreal silver-blue light. It is a natural phenomenon that looks like magic.

2. Do Full Moon dates cost more?

Yes. Due to extremely high demand, resorts like Tent City and others usually have "Premium Date" pricing, which can be 15% to 30% higher than normal weekdays.

3. How early should I book?

For Full Moon dates in December and January, you should book 3 to 4 months in advance. They are the first to get sold out.

4. Can I see the effect 1 day before/after?

Yes! This is our top tip. The moon is 98-99% visible the night before and after the peak date. The experience is almost identical, but the crowds might be slightly less.

5. What time does the moon rise in Kutch?

It depends on the month, but generally, on Full Moon nights, the moon rises around sunset (6:00 PM - 7:00 PM). This allows you to witness the transition from golden sunset to silver moonlight.

6. Is flash photography allowed?

Yes, it is allowed, but we advise against using flash for landscape shots. Flash will only light up the ground near you and ruin the natural moonlight effect in the photo. Use a tripod instead.

7. Are there special events?

The vibe is definitely more festive. Resorts usually host grander cultural programs, and the desert itself stays open for tourists until late at night.

8. Is it safe to walk on the salt at midnight?

Yes. The designated tourist area is patrolled by Border Security Force (BSF) and local police. It is safe, but avoid wandering far off into the dark, unmarked areas.

9. What if I miss the Full Moon?

Don't worry. The Dark Moon (No Moon) nights are amazing for stargazing. You can see thousands of stars that are invisible in cities. Every phase has its own beauty.

10. Do I need a special permit?

The standard entry permit works. You don't need a separate "night permit," but you must enter the check post during allowed hours (usually before 8 PM, subject to BSF rules).
