The "Layers" Strategy
The golden rule for Kutch is: Dress in Layers. Don't just bring one heavy coat. Bring items you can add or remove as the day progresses.
Clothing Essentials
- Thermals (Inner wear): Must-have for December and January trips. They keep you warm without looking bulky.
- Light Woolens: A sweater or fleece jacket for evenings (6 PM - 9 PM).
- Heavy Jacket: A windcheater or heavy coat for late-night desert walks or early morning safaris.
- Cotton Clothes: For the daytime sightseeing. Breathable fabrics are best.
- Scarf/Muffler: It gets very windy in the open desert. Protect your ears and neck.
Skin Care & Health
The air in Kutch is salty and dry. It sucks moisture out of your skin.
- Lip Balm & Moisturizer: Apply frequently to avoid cracked lips.
- Sunscreen: The white salt reflects UV rays. You can get sunburnt even in winter.
- Sunglasses: Essential. The glare from the white ground can be blinding at noon.
- Personal Medicines: Pharmacies are far away from the Tent City. Carry your daily meds + painkillers/antacids.
Important Documents
- Original ID Proof: Aadhar Card, Voter ID, or Passport. Required for Permits.
- Hard Copies: Keep 2 photocopies of ID and your Booking Voucher. Networks fail, so don't rely only on phone screens.
- Cash: Keep small change (₹10, ₹20, ₹50 notes) for buying local crafts and tea.

You are going to one of the most photogenic places on Earth. Don't make the common mistake of wearing the wrong colors.
Do Not Wear White
If you wear white or light beige, you will disappear into the background in your photos. The ground is white, the sky is pale blue.
Wear Bright Colors
Red, Orange, Yellow, Hot Pink, or Bandhani prints look stunning against the white salt. These colors pop in photographs.
