Travel Logistics: Getting to Kutch
Distance is the main hurdle. Here are the most practical ways to reach:
Take a direct flight from Kolkata (CCU) to Ahmedabad (AMD). Approx 2.5 hours.
Then: We arrange a private car pickup from Ahmedabad Airport to Kutch (7 hours). Or take the Vande Bharat Express train to Bhuj.
Fly CCU -> Mumbai -> Bhuj. You land just 1.5 hours away from the desert.
Cost: Expensive (₹15k-20k return) but saves a lot of road travel time.
The Garbha Express (12938) goes from Howrah to Gandhidham.
Warning: It takes 38-40 hours. Unless you love train journeys, we suggest flying to save time for sightseeing.
Recommended Itinerary: The 5-Day Plan
Don't travel so far for just 2 days. Here is a relaxed plan to see it all:
- Day 1: Arrive in Ahmedabad/Bhuj. Transfer to Resort. Evening Cultural Show.
- Day 2: The Main Event. Sunrise at White Desert. Visit Kalo Dungar. Sunset on the salt flats.
- Day 3: History & Art. Drive to Dholavira (Harappan Ruins) via the scenic Road to Heaven. Return to Bhuj.
- Day 4: Heritage & Shopping. Explore Aina Mahal and Prag Mahal. Shop for handicrafts at Bhujodi. Stay in Bhuj.
- Day 5: Departure. Fly back from Bhuj or drive to Ahmedabad for evening flight.
For the Art Lover
We know travelers from Kolkata appreciate art and history. Kutch is a goldmine:
Handicraft Villages
Don't just buy; observe. Visit Nirona to see Rogan Art (oil painting) and Ajrakhpur for block printing. The dedication of these artisans is inspiring.
Architecture
The Chattardi (Royal Cenotaphs) in Bhuj and the Vijay Vilas Palace in Mandvi offer stunning architectural photography opportunities.
